Acceptance & Scholarship Offer @ SMU
In this post, I'll be sharing an update on the process of accepting admission and scholarship offers at SMU through online channels. Let's rewind the timeline a bit—it's been three months since the Discovery Day and the scholarship interview leading up to this stage.
Receiving Offer Letter
3 days following my attendance at SMU's Discovery Day, I received my acceptance letter for admission into the Bachelor of Accountancy degree program. The notification arrived online initially and later, a physical copy arrived in my mailbox a week later.
This stage came as no surprise as I had been informed beforehand that attending the Discovery Day would lead to direct admission into the university program. However, the more crucial anticipation was for the outcome of the scholarship interview.
Scholarship Interview Outcome
What's the verdict?
Upon being informed by the staff from the Office of Admissions and Financial Assistance that I would receive the interview outcome in the first week of April 2024, I patiently awaited the news. However, as the week came to a close without any notification in my inbox, my family grew impatient and encouraged me to send a follow-up email. Succumbing to their insistence, I promptly sent the email.
To my surprise and chagrin, I received a reply after just one day, indicating that I had completely overlooked prior emails.
In a frantic search through my junk mail, I finally unearthed the missing information amidst a sea of spam. To my further embarrassment, I discovered not one, but three emails regarding the scholarship offer, all sent on the 19th of February. With a quick scan of the contents, I was overjoyed to learn that I had been awarded the ASEAN scholarship.
Acceptance of the offer
Before proceeding to accepting the scholarship offer, there's a crucial step: accepting the admission offer. Surprisingly, this isn't done on the same platform for admission. Instead, I found myself navigating the JAP (jointacceptanceedu.sg).
Once I confirmed my selection for 'SMU-Accountancy [with TG - pay subsidised fees]', I eagerly awaited updates on the SMU admission platform.
After about a day, the 'Status' shifted from 'Admitted' to 'Pre-matriculant', signaling progress.
Next up was accessing and accepting the scholarship offer. With that done, I received an email from the finance team, initiating the signing arrangements. Here's a visual rundown of the scholarship agreement process.
It's worth noting, especially for those eyeing the ASEAN undergraduate scholarship, that two employed sureties were required, both under the age of 50 for non-SG citizen. This requirement might pose a challenge for older working parents who wish to be sureties.
With the first three steps completed, I awaited until May for the admission team to verify documents and facilitate the signing of the acceptance agreement. With that, the process of accepting both the admission and scholarship offer came to a satisfying close.
Learning Points
- Regularly check junk mails when awaiting for important dissemination of information.
- When applying for scholarships, prepare by contacting for suitable sureties.
