June 2024 Quarter Review
In this blog post, I'll be diving into a review and analysis of the goals I set back in March. We'll take a close look at whether they're still on track and worth pursuing. Furthermore, I'll be crafting a fresh set of goals to steer my journey forward.
Summary
Review and Analysis
What had I accomplished so far
Goal 1: Master 20 new cardistry and 20 new yoyo tricks
- Document each new trick in a draft blog post
- Compile 2 cardistry and 2 yoyo tricks into a monthly video
This goal hasn't unfolded smoothly so far, as I often forget about its existence. Maybe I shouldn't force these skills into my daily routine but rather enjoy them as a weekend hobby.
Goal 2: Master Japanese at the N2 level
- Utilize online resources like https://freejapanesebooks.com/
- Aim to pass the N3 Japanese mock test by year-end 2024
- Consistent practice with daily Duolingo and Quizlet flashcards
I managed to keep a daily streak on Duolingo but didn't study Japanese as seriously as I intended.
Goal 3: Anime video editing and blogging
- Edit 1 Anime video each month
- Write a detailed blog post about an Anime every month
Dated June, I managed to edit just two videos on The Apothecary Diaries and wrote only one blog post.
Goal 4: Practice trading skills with 100 paper trades
- Complete Adam Khoo's Stock Trading courses I and II by April
- Maintain a detailed trading log in Excel
I finished Course I in May, but I haven't started Course II yet. I've been paper trading since the end of June, but I'm not confident I'll reach 100 paper trades by the end of 2024.
Goal 5: Master Photoshop skills
- Finish the 'Photoshop for Beginners' course by PiXimperfect
- Regularly practice learned techniques and explore new ones
- Experiment with different images and document noteworthy results
I had decided to give up on learning this skill for now, as I don't find it useful nor interesting to learn currently.
Goal 6: Fitness goal and balanced diet
- Adhere to workout plan consistently
- Maintain awareness of dietary choices
In my opinion, I had maintained a balanced diet by cooking my meals and ensuring I consume all nutrients equally. I stuck to a simple workout plan before June, but after returning from my trip to Taiwan, I haven't been following it daily.
Goal 7: Expand literary horizons
- Regularly explore new reads via Goodreads
- Select standout books for detailed blog reviews
- Publish one book review per month
I have published only four book reviews so far, and I'm just two reviews away from reaching my goal.
Goal 8: Blogs writing
- Produce 11 book review blogs
- Share 10 insights on university experiences
- Reflect on 5 internship encounters
- Recount 5 memorable high school moments
- Share 40 blogs on personal interests
- Pen 29 musings on various topics
Aside from my weekly journal, I’ve published just 29 blogs so far, which is 29% of my goal for 2024.
Goal 9: Self-study ICAEW CFAB syllabus
- ✅Complete Accounting studies by February
- ✅Complete Assurance studies by March
- ✅Complete Business, Technology, and Finance studies by April
- ▶️Complete Law studies by May
- Complete Management Information studies by June
- Complete Principles of Taxation studies by July
I've completed my studies in Accounting, Assurance, and BTF, and I just started studying Law at the end of June. I'm a bit behind schedule with my self-study, but I aim to finish my Law studies before returning to Singapore for university.
Goal 10*: Explore into philosophy and psychology
- Watch Crash Course series on both subjects
- Read 5 books each on Philosophy and Psychology
- Craft a minimum of 2 articles per topic
I finished watching the Crash Course on Philosophy, but I haven't started on psychology yet. I tried reading a book titled "Metaphysics" but didn’t manage to finish it before it was due. Plus, I haven't crafted any articles yet. Overall, it wasn't a very successful attempt.
Goal 11*: Cultivate classical music appreciation
- Research and explore classical music compositions
- Compose a monthly blog post on chosen piece
I'm embarrassed to admit that I completely forgot about my goal to cultivate an appreciation for classical music. I think a more effective approach would be to remind myself to include it as an activity in my weekly plan to get started.
Adjusted goals and approaches
Suiting my purpose better
Main changes of the goals setting would be loosening of expectations as my university life are starting soon, and I am anxious about the extent of busyness as a first year student.
Goal 1: Alternate the learning of a new yo-yo trick and cardistry trick every weekend
- Document each new trick in a draft blog post
By treating yo-yo and cardistry as hobby during the weekend, I believe it will be easier to commit in consistent practice until it becomes a habit.
Goal 2: Master Japanese at the N4 level
- Utilize online resources like https://freejapanesebooks.com/
- Aim to pass the N4 Japanese mock test by year-end 2024
- Consistent practice with daily Duolingo and Anki flashcards
It will be a smaller but motivating step to aim for N4 level as a goal for the year compared to N2 level. Furthermore, I have switched to Anki flashcards as in my opinion it is better than Quizlet as a study tool.
Goal 3: Anime video editing and blogging
- Edit 1 Anime video each month
- Write a detailed blog post about an Anime every month
Goal 4: Practice trading skills with 50 paper trades
- Complete Adam Khoo's Stock Trading courses II by August
- Maintain a detailed trading log in Excel
Goal 5: Fitness goal and balanced diet
- Adhere to workout plan consistently
- Maintain awareness of dietary choices
Goal 6: Expand literary horizons
- Regularly explore new reads via Goodreads
- Select standout books for detailed blog reviews
- Publish one book review per month
Goal 7: Blogs writing
- Produce 7 more book review blogs
- Share 10 insights on university experiences
- Reflect on 5 internship encounters
- Recount 5 memorable high school moments
- Share 29 more blogs on personal interests
- Pen 29 musings on various topics
Goal 8: Self-study ICAEW CFAB syllabus
- Complete Law studies by August
- Complete Management Information studies and Principles of Taxation studies during vacation
As I have no more vacation left, I shall postpone the study of the last to subject to end of year vacation.
Goal 9: Explore into philosophy and psychology
- Watch Crash Course series on psychology
- Read 2 books each on Philosophy and Psychology
- Craft a blog on any Philosophy's topic during August
- Craft a blog on any Psychology's topic during December
Goal 10: Cultivate classical music appreciation
- Explore and take down notes on classical music compositions
- Compose at least 3 blog post on any chosen pieces
Goal 11*: Sketching and Painting
- Produce 1 set of sketch every month
- Paint at least once every month
*newly added goal
