My biweekly journal: 15 Sep - 28 Sep
The past two weeks have been incredibly busy with mid-term prep. Most of my time went into making notes and doing practice exercises, which brought a sense of nostalgia and fulfillment.
Notable events
- School work consolidation
These past two weeks were a mix of learning new content and revising for mid-terms. The pressure of upcoming exams and deadlines felt both distant yet familiar, which I think many freshmen can relate to. Wishing myself and everyone else the best for the exams — I’m definitely looking forward to the much-needed recess week after this stressful stretch.
- Psychology Sharing
Since I’ve always had an interest in psychology and even considered it as a potential second degree, I decided to attend a sharing session organized by SMU Psychology Society and SPS Youth Wing. The session was insightful, shedding light on the various career paths in psychology. One surprising takeaway was just how challenging the career can be compared to other fields. A striking comment from the speakers was that "having a psychology degree means nothing." This really emphasized the need for further studies, like a Master's or PhD, to truly specialize and succeed in the field.
- Climbing Workshop
It had been a while since I last went bouldering, but this event definitely reignited my interest in it. I also got to try top rope and endurance climbing for the first time, and it was a great experience overall. Honestly, I still had that fear of falling while climbing, but the sense of accomplishment after completing a route—even as a complete beginner—totally outweighed it.
- Dental Check-up
I visited a dental clinic in Johor Bahru for a wisdom tooth check-up, and the results were both surprising and a bit embarrassing. After the check-up, I decided to schedule another appointment for fillings at a government clinic. However, what stood out more than the dental visit was the experience of crossing the border using Singapore’s public transport — all within half a day. It was surprisingly convenient, and it got me thinking about planning a Johor Bahru trip with friends in the future.
