My weekly journal: 28 July - 3 Aug
This week was spent mainly on socializing with others rather than focusing on strengthening my own skills or spending time on personal development.
Notable events
- Class Outing with High School Friends
With August approaching, the girls are heading to university while most of the guys remain in National Service. This marks the official departure of high school friends onto different paths, so we decided to have a gathering before some head overseas for their studies. It was an invaluable time spent catching up with friends after eight months. I wish everyone the best in their university or National Service journeys.
- Collected Student Card and Visited Li Ka Shing Library at SMU
After picking up my student card in the afternoon, I decided to check out the Li Ka Shing Library. Since it was the vacation period, I found myself among the few people on Level 4. The quiet and comfortable atmosphere was a pleasant contrast to the National Library (Lee Kong Chian Reference Library), where seats with charging ports are always packed. I can definitely see myself working here often between lessons and on weekends.
- Participated in Freshmen Orientation 2024: SMUTOPIA
I attended Run 3 of Freshmen Orientation 2024: SMUTOPIA, which took place from July 30 to August 1. This three-day program introduced us to freshmen from other faculties. Honestly, I didn't feel as bonded with this group compared to my previous orientation at ASoc Camp. It could be due to the larger group size or the fewer people attending on the second day. Needless to say, there were good moments during the camp. Thanks to my facilitators Bliss, Brandon, and Fay for leading the group.
- Published the Blog on ASoc Camp 2024: Eternus
As I promised my facilitator Guo Long, I found some free time to compile all the interesting and notable events from the week and published the blog. I feel fortunate to have participated in this orientation and hope the friendships we made last a long time.
- Completed Internship Readiness Module (IRM)
This pre-internship module was incredibly useful in developing essential career skills. I became a big fan of LinkedIn Learning and VMock, which taught me effective ways to craft compelling and easy-to-read resumes, as well as tips for interviewing. Having free access to these resources is a blessing for my learning and career journey.
